Hello Spice Girls & Guys!
It has been a very busy week for me with plenty of events. Today, I had the opportunity to go to the 2nd Her Campus National Intercollegiette Conference in the heart of New York City.

We had to wake up bright and early as it started at 8:30am and we wanted to make sure we beat the traffic. I am extremely grateful that my team member and editor-in-chief of Her Campus Montclair was able to give me a lift. We arrived earlier than expected at 8:00am.
We had some breakfast as they set up. We were soon able to sign in and get our badges and swag bags. I was surprised to find that this year they had switched out the lanyard for a pink ribbon, which I was not a big fan of. The ribbon continuously fell off and was a bit scratchy against my neck. I find it very adorable hanging by my dry erase board over my desk.

Dimitra and I waited for more of our team members, but unfortunately, one of them passed out and was violently vomiting on the sidewalk. She had to get rushed to the ER and thankfully she was only dehydrated. She did have to miss the conference. The ladies of Her Campus were sweet enough to allow us to take a swag bag to her. So many thank you to you ladies! It’s very much appreciated! I am sure she will be very happy once I hand it over to her.

We had a blast taking a bunch of photos and we rushed to get some Her Campus merch. We are having a giveaway with the items we purchased and we could not be more excited! I am still looking for a few more items to throw into the bags.

Soon, it was time to go to the morning keynote which was given by Josie Natori, the Founder and CEO of The Natori Company and Jaqui Lividini, the CEO and Founder of Lividini & Co. They were both inspirational women and I especially loved the Josie changed her career from business to fashion. She shows us ladies that not all careers have to be lifelong, you can always pursue other things.

Dimitra and I soon met up with one of our Feature Writers, Tanya, so we could go to panels together. Before the panels started, we went to “pledge” I love having photos with little billboards that say our thoughts or dreams. You get to learn something about others and about yourself. Here are our photos and our pledges.

We ended up going to a panel titled Jobs in Marketing and PR: How to Break In. I’ve had my heart set on marketing, PR, and social media so this was the perfect panel for me. The panel proved to be popular as it quickly filled up and we were left with a sofa in the back of the room. The moment I sat in it, I sunk down, leaving me virtually invisible to the panel behind several impeccably dressed ladies. I didn’t really care as the sofa was the most glorious thing my butt sat on. I wanted to sleep there honestly but I kept my eyes peeled open and my ears on high alert. The panel consisted of the following wonderful women: Jacqueline Gonzales- Marketing Strategist Lead at Chipotle Mexican Grill, Stephanie Luu Matthew- Account Supervisor at Intel and Oglivy Public Relations, Keeley Patterson- Director of Marketing and Client Solutions at Glam Media, Julia Quinn- Director of Social Media at Amtrak, Kristen Tully- Account Supervisor at Marina Maher Communications (MMC), and Janna Meyrowitz Turner- Founder/ President of Style House PR. The person who popped out to me the most was Keeley. She was bubbly, knowledgeable, and Glam Media is all about blogs! I was immediately itching to speak to her and ask her some questions. I gathered up the courage and (courteously) pushed my way through the horde of girls to the front. She was the sweetest person ever. Honestly, I wished I could stuff her in my swag bag and take her home! She listened to my question and complimented me on my business card and the name of my blog (Score and score!). I couldn’t help but feel giddy. I now know I most definitely want to go into the social media realm. It’s fun and my passion.

Keeley Patterson(far right)
I was ecstatic to see that my old boss at my very first internship was speaking at a panel. I waited outside the room before and after but I didn’t see her. I didn’t know if she simply didn’t show up but I was a bit bummed not to say hello to her. We made our way to the second panel. This panel was Climbing the Ladder: Journalism Jobs Later On. I’ve always been huge about writing. It’s always been something I loved to do, hence why I started my blog. I’ve always wondered about writing for a magazine and I thought this was a great panel. The key to landing the job? Lots and LOTS of internships. I cannot stress how much you need internships. Not one, but several. It’s a competitive world and hundreds, if not thousands of girls have the same dream as you. You have to make sure you can edge out the competition. Another thing you need, a great cover letter. Don’t just change the name on the cover letter and send it out to several companies, personalize it. Show them how much you love the company and really try to grasp their attention. Be professional, but show your personality.
This great panel was comprised of: Elisa Benson- Senior Editor of Social Media at Cosmopolitan, Lauren Brown- Site Director of OKMagazine.com, Emily Chau- Product Editor at Rodale’s, and Jane Nussbaum- Senior Editor at Psychology Today. The one who stood out to me the most was Lauren Brown. She was so energetic, it was infectious. I wanted her to be my best friend. She was most definitely a teen at heart despite her being the oldest in the panel. I wanted to speak to her but she was being bombarded so I asked her if we could connect and handed her my business card. Hopefully, I will be able to connect with her and ask some questions.
Josie Natori was offering bra fittings and a complimentary bra. We ran up the steps and signed the cards. I was upset when I saw the bras ranged only from 32-36 A-DD. I was upset because I am a 38 C. I feel like she isn’t really catering to the bigger girls. I put down a bra size in 36D, we will see how it fits. They also had a BCBGeneration sample sale with adorable little goodies and a BCBGeneration hair bar. They would do your hair in the cutest styles but the line was too long and I was too tired to get it done.

The best part came. Free.Chipotle. I know, hold on to your seats because I was flipping tables out of my way to get there (not really, but in my head I was). This years was even better. Last year, they simply handed us a burrito of our choice, this year they had two long rows of tables with various toppings and choices, just like at the normal chipotle. You could get as much or as little as you wanted. I got some white rice, chicken, mild salsa, corn, cheese, and sour cream with a dash of chipotle tobasco sauce. In the process, I got my Banana Republic and Her Campus tote bag smeared in guacamole. I had no idea how. I cried a little as I ate my delicious lunch when I spotted a medium sized green blot on my WHITE dress. I can’t have nice things apparently.
We decided to leave around 2:30pm. I was in pain, I could barely stand anymore while Dimitra was exhausted. I love the Her Campus Conference but I had spent the whole week running around New York, that it physically drained me. I just wanted to lie in bed. We missed the Girl Rising documentary screening, the winner of the Intel laptop, the winner of the printer and other goodies, and a few of the keynotes. I was a bit bummed I didn’t meet anyone from the Her Campus Blogger Network as I really could not tell who was who. I did see a friend of mine that I met last year, which was nice.
All in all, it was a great day. I feel that I learned a lot and I am very excited to do this giveaway for the girls at Montclair. The swag bag isn’t as good as last year as I don’t know when I will be using the Veet products (they irritate my skin), so I might be giving them away, so keep an eye out!

Contents of my swag bag! People StyleWatch, Josie tote, $400 Chipotle coupon, UnReal candy, Veet products, Intel Nail Polish, perfume, Jansport Scarf, etc.

I also got this tasty “reduce stress” lightly carbonated drink. I love lychee so I ran for it. It has a slight diet aftertaste but it’s rather good.

And they are making some new Audrey Hepburn memes and we were given a sneak peek. I am a huge Audrey fan so I grabbed all four.

I also bought myself a Her Campus sweater which is extremely soft and a bit oversized and a Her Campus V Neck…yay!

I was wearing a Prabal Gurung for Target dress, Prabal Gurung for Target wedges, necklace from Charming Charlie, and bracelets by BaubleBar, Aldo Accessories, and Icing.
I do hope to go again next year and network a bit more! Thank you so much for a great day, Her Campus. I am pooped!
